Intramuscular (IM) injections

Hello,

It has been awhile since I last blogged.

I started intramuscular (IM) injections two days ago because I’m no longer using my port due to the severe allergic reaction to the patches that keep the area clean. I need thyroid medication everyday and due to the malabsorption issue I have, this is my last option. I am grateful my Oncologist thought of this. Yesterday, a new home care nurse came to my home. She taught me how to inject myself because this is a different type of process and a different type of needle. The needle is much longer. I did well when she gave me it. I used my stress ball because I was getting nervous. Today, I gave myself meds, but I started panicking. I ended up making a mess out of myself, but sticking my self 4 times! I shouldn’t have done that. As you can see, I’m a big wuss. Hey if I can have a needle stuck in my chest 7 days a week, why can’t I do this? Tomorrow is a new day and since I have to do this for the rest of my life I will eventually get the hang of this. Thanks to my wonderful oncology team, you guys rock. Thank you to the new infusion home care service for all their help and getting me my meds within 3 days. It was a very stressful three weeks with this situation. My first home infusion service center wouldn’t get me the medication. I’m thankful and relieved after having a massive migraine for 3 days over this stress that this is all over. I wish I could easily take a pill like everyone else. This week I will share a video how I have to administer my meds. I have to mix everything first before injecting it into my muscle.

I am getting ready for my scans on August 29th. Positive vibes only please!

🤟🏻 Danielle
